Tips for Portraits you'll LOVE!

LOCATION

Choose a location that matches your style and look that you are going for. I am open to any location idea, so feel free to send me you ideas...don't be afraid to get creative! If I'm unfamiliar with a location that you'd like, I will visit it and give you my opinion on how it'd work.

Some favorite local destinations include: Richfield Park, For Mar Nature Reserve, Downtown Flint, Downtown Davison, Crossroads Village, and Frankenmuth.

WARDROBE

Coordinate your outfits but don't be too matchy-matchy. Keep in mind that busy prints and logos are distracting in photos. Choose colors that compliment each other. If you're stuck on what colors go well together there are some great ideas on Pinterest. Make sure clothes are wrinkle free, lint free and fit well. Try sitting and laying down to ensure a comfortable fit. Accessories are always welcome and encouraged...hats, jackets, jewelry, scarves. Remember that your shoes will be in your photos too.

If you're having a senior session I recommend visiting Pinterest for some outfit inspiration! Feel free to contact me if you'd like some help.

HAIR AND MAKEUP

A natural look is great for photos. I advise wearing a little makeup to enhance your eyes, cheeks and lips. It's best to stay away from shiny foundation, glitter, and white powder. Please bring a hairbrush/comb and lip gloss or lip balm for touch ups. If you're planning to have your hair cut please do so at least a week in advance. If you're having your photo session in the summer keep in mind those tan lines. Your nails will be visible in your photos so make sure polish is perfect and/or natural nails are clean.

GLASSES

If you are wearing glasses during your session it is recommended that you have the lenses removed by your eye doctor. Glass glare is very difficult and sometimes not possible to remove in post.

CHILDREN

Photo sessions are full of excitement for children and they get worn out pretty quickly so try to make sure your child is well rested and fed prior to arrival. Please feel free to bring a snack and drink for your child. It's a good idea to have some wet wipes to clean up faces and hands. Bringing a back up outfit just in case of an accident is helpful too.

I find it's best to not create too much anticipation before a session. Let the child know that your going to [location] but not make a big fuss about having their picture taken. Sometimes creating too much energy about the session will cause some anxiety. And don't worry if they're not smiling for their photos right away... usually after a little warm up they will relax and we'll get some smiles! I always follow the lead of the child to help keep them relaxed and allow them to have some fun.

RELAX

There is no need to stress about your session! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me so we can resolve any issues ahead of time. I understand what it feels like to be nervous about being in front of the camera but I assure you that I will do my best to calm your nerves and once we get going you'll have fun!

Get a good night's sleep the night before and make sure you're well hydrated so you look your best and leave the rest up to me!
